Council Report: no tax increase, no layoffs and no cut in services
recent and upcoming events 5/23/2011- Council had a long and tiring meeting last Tuesday. I am happy with the budget we passed for the upcoming year. It highlights include NO TAX INCREASE., we are not laying anyone off, and no cut in services.. I am particularly happy that 200k was included for enhancements to Fort Dickerson and 50k to help complete the hike/bike trails in South Knoxville. I voted against a Resolution to charge for backdoor garbage pickup. I would have rather seen this charge amortized over a period of 2-3 years. After much debate the Hillside Ridgetop issue was postponed. A joint workshop with County Commission is scheduled for June 9th at 5. More to come on this subject. The First District was also a big winner in the capitol improvement budget as well, funding for the Cumberland Avenue Redevelopment, Cherokee Trail safety improvements, improvements will be made to land adjacent to Fort Dickerson. I attended West Hills neighborhood association meeting, and the mayoral forum. We had the crime forum Thursday night and it was a huge success. Attendance was great, very good questions, and lots of positive energy. Thank you for taking the time to find out about events in the First District. You may also contact me anytime @454-7216. Nick
