Knoxville District 1 News
December report
Thank you for visiting my website.
The last Council meeting was a very important one, in that; we are finalizing the Hillside/Ridge top issue. Council approved the agreed upon amended version from the workshops held with County Commission. It is directed back to MPC and will be back on our agenda for the December 13th meeting. I plan to ask it be heard on emergency so we can put this to bed with the current council since this is the last meeting for Council persons Roddy, Bailey, and Woodhull. This has been a long process and I am glad to hopefully see it pass. This measure will mean a lot to the District and to the City and help promote our Urban Wilderness theme.
Thanks to State Representative Harry Brooks for bringing many high ranking officials from the State to canvass the businesses on Chapman highway and hear firsthand the effect the bridge closure is having. The day was very rainy but they fought the elements to hear from South Knoxville. There have been changes to signage and the hope of some relief to others businesses as a result
I have spoken to many folks that are already using the newly opened dog park at Charter Doyle Park. I encourage you to visit the park even if you don’t have a pet. It is a beautiful park and the walking/jogging trail has recently been repaved so it’s like a new park for us.
Some energetic folks in South Knoxville have created a hiking club TREK South (Traverse, Ride, & Explore Knoxville-South) they have also created a interesting Facebook page as well visit it at WWW.FACEBOOK.COM/PAGES/TREK-SOUTH their next scheduled hike is December the 18th come be a part of South Knoxville Urban Wilderness.
Thank you all that visited and contributed last week when I was a bell ringer for the Salvation Army. Knoxville’s generosity never seems to stop. I would encourage you to give to this worthy cause and take the time to ring the bell it is a very rewarding experience.
I hope to see many of you at the swearing in of the new Mayor and Council members December 17th beginning at 10a.m. at the Jacobs Building. There will be a reception afterwards and then the election of the Vice Mayor, Beer Board Chair, and the KAT representative.
As we close another year I want to wish you a very glorious Holiday season and a safe and prosperous 2012. Lastly, thank you for allowing me to be your City Councilman it is an honor and a privilege.
Nick
