Happy Holidays

December 23, 2011

Happy Holidays to all.  I hope you were able to attend the swearing in of Mayor Rogero and the new Council members Finnbar Saunders, Marshall Stair, Mark Campen, George Wallace and our City Judge John Rosson.  It was a great event and was standing room only. Now it’s down to work for us all.

I was honored to be elected Vice Mayor by my fellow council members, along with Brenda Palmer as Beer Board Chair, and Daniel Brown as our KAT representative.

I also want to take this time to clarify my role as Vice Mayor. First off, and foremost, I remain as your Council person for the First District of South Knoxville and Fort Sanders. There has been some confusion about me remaining your Councilman so I wanted to clarify immediately.   I also want to clarify the fact about my running for the newly created State House of Representative’s seat for South Knoxville and parts of West Knoxville.  I AM NOT RUNNING FOR THAT SEAT EITHER!  I am going to be your councilperson as I promised when I ran three years ago. We have made tremendous strides in the district but we have a lot of work ahead of us.  In fact, I will be running for a second term as your council person just so you know.

The duties of Vice Mayor include serving as presiding officer of Council meetings in the absence of the Mayor. Perform the duties of the Mayor during the Mayor’s temporary absence or disability. Supervise City Council employees. Oversee the administrative activities of the City Council. Assume the position of “Acting Mayor” immediately upon a vacancy occurring in the office of Mayor. Serve in that position for up to ten days until City Council appoints one of its own members to serve in that position of “Acting Mayor”.

I hope this clarifies my duties as Councilperson and Vice Mayor. It is an honor, and as far as I know, the first time the Mayor and Vice Mayor have been from South Knoxville.  It could not happen without your support and for that I am ever grateful.

I hope you have a very wonderful and glorious Holiday Season and as always don’t hesitative to contact me @454-7216.

Nick
