Knoxville District 1 News
February Post
Hello and thank you for visiting my site. We are moving into Feb and wondering if we are going to have a winter. I am just fine without one. The Council has decided on Rob Frost as their attorney. It was a very difficult decision with several quality candidates. Pending his contract being approved Tuesday at the meeting we are set to go. Rob brings a wealth of experience to the position and we are glad to have him.
We unofficially kicked off the budget season Friday the 3rd with an update from the Finance department. We are holding our own basically halfway through this year's budget. There are no big surprises thanks to all the hard work from our finance folks. I will have more on that subject as we progress with next year's budget.
The Council is exploring the impact signs have on our community. A panel is being formed with the Chamber naming 3 members and council asking for approximately the same number of panelist, along with members of the MPC, codes, and the administration. Thanks to Duane Grieve and George Wallace for being council representatives.
The Council had a visioning workshop Saturday the 4th. It was facilitated by Leadership Knoxville, and specifically Tim Young, Jeanne Delaney, and Tammy White. It was an awesome learning event for all of council. We learned a lot about each others personalities and how we will interact moving forward. Most importantly, we outlined collectively what we want Knoxville to look like in the future. Basically, we envision a cleaner, greener, connected Knoxville with safe neighborhoods. We also envisioned commercial development that is friendly to its surrounding and built to scale. We plan to reconvene it 4-6 months with the administration at the table and move forward from there.
That's all for now, but always feel free to reach out to me personally at 454-7216. Thanks, Nick
